And....
The New National Unity Government in Zimbabwe has been in office for about two weeks now. Civil servants and teachers have begun to be paid in foreign currency. But, the MDC supporters continue to be harrassed. Roy Bennett, the Deputy Agriculture Minister-Designee, was arrested on the day he was to be sworn in. He continues to be detention.
The past few days have seen the Prime Minister of Zimbabwe guaranteeing Mr. Bennett's availabilty so that he can be granted bail. A judge did grant Mr. Bennett bail. But, the Zimbabwean Attorney General requested a seven-day stay to appeal the judgement. The butcher is quiet through all of this. I have also seen reports that more farms are being attacked and taken over. There is also a report now that the Vice President of Zimbabwe has been implicated in a deal to circumvent the European Union Sanctions Regime to further enrich herself and her cronies. . She and her husband, the former Chief of the Army, are among the richest people in Zimbabwe. So much for revolution and being a comrade!!!!
