What a Day!!!!
As I was on the road today, I was monitoring news reports and had a chance to catch a glimpse of his speech on MSNBC. I know the whole world was abuzz with the speech. My jaw dropped when I saw the people who showed up. The line was a mile long and stretched as far as the Brand berg Gate.
Conservatives were up in arms, though. The High Priest of them all, Rush Limbaugh, was mad as hell!!! He noted how Obama demeaned America and attacked his country. I heard the line. He admitted mistakes. Rush seems to forget that we practiced apartheid in America up to 1964 and racism is yet to be fully eradicated. The nomination of Barack Obama is to be celebrated as a milestone in America's on-going evolution and maturity. It is strange that the conservatives cite history when it suits them and conveniently forget it when the facts simply don't support them.
Senator McCain was also on a roll as well. Yesterday, at a town meeting, he basically accused Senator Obama of Treason by suggesting that Senator Obama would rather lose a war to win a political argument. That, to me, was frankly disappointing. I speak for many in this country when I salute Senator McCain for his service to our country. But Senator McCain and the Conservatives in this country do not have a monopoly on patriotism. Attacking someone's patriotism is wrong and un-American. Beyond that, Senator McCain criticized the rally itself because he said that such events should be held after one is elected President of The United States. I sense his outbursts as one of simple jealousy. It was OK for Senator McCain to speak in Canada and talk about NAFTA, go to Colombia and Mexico and try and look Presidential. But it is wrong for Senator Obama. I trust that the campaign will step up and score a knockout punch now.
Senator Obama struck all the right tones. But, he needs to be ready for the onslaught of attacks, especially regarding Iraq. Senator McCain and his surrogates are basically following Dick Morris' script which I reported and commented on last night. . Senator Obama's campaign needs to wake up and realize the coming Tsunami. This is Swift Boat v2. And it will not be pretty
By the way, there was a rumor that Senator Obama's campaign cancelled a visit with wounded troops in Germany. The truth is that the visit was cancelled at the request of the Pentagon because of the political nature of the visit in Germany. Andrea Mitchell of NBC reported that Senator Obama had visited wounded troops in Iraq. So, once again, the rumor mill was in full swing.Thankfully this was put to bed rather quickly.
