Today in Honduras

June 28th 2009 21:21
: Geese.......

The struggle in Honduras has taken a turn for the worst. Now, the President is in exile in Costa Rica and is saying he is still President. The Army did remove the President. But, the Supreme Court has said that it ordered the Army to remove the President. There is a new acting President now. There is not a clear indication as to what has happened.

Hugo Chavez came out to condemn the Coup and blame the US. The deposed President said that it was a coup that the US embassy did not approve--without giving any proof of course. The whole world has come out to condemn it--including President Obama. I would truly like to know how Hugo Chavez blames the US. I would say that Hugo Chavez does have a point due to the long-standing interventionist policies of the United States since the early part of the 20th Century. But, this struggle truly seems to be a internal struggle between the variuos strands of Honduran Society. The irony of it all is how Hugo Chavez came out in support of Democracy when in fact he has done everything to undermine it.

The implications for the region may well be far reaching. The drama goes on!!

Knowing nothing about Honduran politics, Mike, maybe we should try to get more information before believing that the US was involved, ya think? Hugo Chavez can't be trusted as far as you can throw his country with one hand (and Venezuela isn't small).

Hi S.L,

The state dept. just came out and said that the ousted President is recognized as the only legitimate President. As for Hugo Chavez, he is quite a showman..and a good one....I am fasincated by him and am amused by his prouncements.

Chavez is only out for his own glory, Mike. He's as fascinating as a really big spider, creeping toward you.
