The MDC and ZANU-PF have signed the memorandum. After the signature, this image flasehd around the world showed a "tenative first step". Despite my disappointment in Thabo Mbeki, he pulled it off. Maybe he heard the world and those of us outsiders and ordinary folks who cared. I commend him for it. This achievement is a cause for celebration for Zimbabwe and the world and the triumph of diplomacy over force and fear. I won't change my mind on Robert Mugabe just yet. But the fact that both Robert Mugabe and Morgan Tsvangirai signed this is critical. I am happy for the people of Zimbabwe and Africa. I trust that they would be able to pull it off. They truly have no choice. I will be anxiously awaiting the results after the two-week blackout period.
