The so-called election in Zimbabwe
The election in Zimbabwe is over. Supposedly, the result will be available late on Saturday night. I find that truly strange and odd when they in fact did not annouce it for almost a month, citing the "complexity" of the voting process at the time. When the "old man" voted, they asked him how he felt. He said he felt great and among his feelings, he said he was "hungry". And he was laughing. I guess I would laughing, too.
Now, there are apologists who say that the world has focused too much on Zimbabwe. They say (and I briefly discussed this) that they should also focus on Gabon, Equaterial Guinea and other states as well. The difference between those countries and Zimbabwe is this: Zimbabwe was a country that was at the forefront of liberation struggle. Mugabe sought to be South Africa before the South Africa we know today. Although, I need to point out that South Africa has one of the worst crime rates in the world. The White Community in South Africa has been subjected to beatings and killings. I, as one observer, expected a lot more of Zimbabwe than what Mugabe did. Mugabe could have been a great man and a giant amongst men in Africa and the world. Yet, he decided to be another tin-pot dictator. The only people who will suffer are the poor people of Zimbabwe who have to pay 6 billion Zimbabwean Dollars for a loaf of Bread.
