The Republicans: The Day After

: The Battle Lines Have been Drawn...
Well, for starters, Dick Morris just called it: John McCain has been elected President. What Dick and the rest of the pundits seem to forget that there are about 200 million of us who will vote on November 4. I admit that I do look at the polls to assess the status. Let's look to analyze what they have to say and how they are going to say it. The debates will play a profond part in realizing what direction the country will go.

Life does move on, though. Right now, Iraq's lauded achievements seem to be quite illusory. The Republicans claimed that we are about to win. This claim goes contrary to a front page story in today's Los Angeles Times noting that General Petraus is recommending against an immediate drawdown due to a increased fear that violence will in fact potentially pick up. In addition, the fact does in fact remain that Iraq has in fact gone through a defacto partition. Kurdistan has its' representatives at the UN, Jalal Talabani's son is the defacto Ambassador to the US and the region has its' own airline. So, this notion of a unified Iraq is a myth. Now, Barzani is playing a high stakes game to expand the Kurdistan region. So, this myth pushed by the Republicans is an outright lie. The Americans are stuck in the middle.

All I can say is that it will be interesting.....
