The Green Party in the U.S.
The Green Party nominated Cynthia McKinney, a former U.S. Member of Congress as its' Presidential Candidate. She, in turn, nominated Rosa Clemente, a community organizer as her running mate. They are the first all-female minority candidates running for office. They were both featured on Democracy Now (http://www.democracynow.org). Ms.McKinney has a point of view and her point of view should be respected. But, for the Greens to be relevant, they have to stop nominating fringe candidates. They have to partner with the mainstream party that still represents the best hope for progressives to make a difference. Rosa Clemente, despite her pedigree and graduation from Cornell, kept repeating that U.S. Troops have to get out of Iran. She did not realize that our country has over 150,000 troops in Iraq. There needs to be more of a vibrant debate. But, the current alternatives do not present much of an alternative. It is indeed a shame.
