The Burdens of a President

: Why would anyone want this job?!??!
During my morning review on Thursday, I was surprised at the scenes of President Obama attending the dignifed transfer of the fallen at Dover Air Force in Delaware:

The burdens that a President carries is beyond words. I think that burden is very much in evident in President Obama's face. The trip to Dover brought home the ultimate cost and sacrifice of the war. This was front page news on CNN, MSNBC, BBC, France24 and other leading news organizations. As Fox News buried it, the world still took notice of a President who seems to realize the price that America is paying.

All Presidents have understood it in their own way. They have had to make the tough decisions necessary for the good of the Country. I think that the President's visit to Dover signifies that his decision will come down anyday. Although I continue to view the Afghan Policy as going in the wrong direction, withdrawing now is really not an option.

I anxiously await the President's decision. The Defense Budget that the President has signed is the largest ever: 680 Billion Dollars. Hopefully, the country will get behind it as the Republicans have committed to supporting the President and will direct their fire somewhere else.

Honestly Mike... The photo-op with flag draped coffins was designed strictly for show. His real interest is not in the troops or he would be making an effort to act according to Gen. McChrystal's suggestions. Instead he keeps putting him off and had to some something to make a performance of caring. And Fox did cover the story. They just didn't drool all over him for his acting prowess.

Mike, you never saw President Cheney or his proxy, George Bush, take any responsibility for the deaths of any service men or women in the Iraq and Afghani wars. It was both great and sad to see that. I know that if I was President, it would break my heart to do it, but I would see it as my duty to meet every coffin that returned.

This is why the President is taking his time to make the right decision and not just throwing another 40,000 troops into the mess. There have been Generals before McChrystal who have said they had a plan and winning strategy, yet look where we are now.

Poor Cheney! His and the Bush team's strategies in Afghanistan were real winners, weren't they? I'd rather have a president who thought through the ramifications and learned from the mistakes of his predecessor than one who repeated them.
