Why is the world surprised?
Russia just did what the world did not want it to do. It has recognized Georgia's breakway regions. The Russian Bear has come back roaring stronger than ever. I have said this once and will say it again; The responsibility lies with the Georgian President. He should not have taken the bait the South Ossetians laid out for him. Did he win the propaganda war? I suppose. But, Russians do not care. Why the United States is surprised is something that I am confused about. Furthermore, Al Jazeera is reporting right now that Russians may table a resolution condemning the civilian Afghan casualities. So, Russia will not stay silent. It is one of the new realities that the West must deal with. Right now, The Russian U.N. Ambassador is making a statement regarding the justification for the recognition. He is reporting on the timeline that ultimately led to this step. I do agree with the Russian Ambassador in that the Georgian President was the one who undertook this to his detriment. But, The Russians talking about Democracy is also just as idiotic and stupid.
