Rocky Aoki: A Brief Tribute
Rocky Aoki, the founder of Benihana, died a few days ago. He was a showman, an adventurer and a rags-to-riches story that was America at its' best. When I ate at the restaurant that was his creation, I was amazed as to the tenacity this man. He sold ice cream during the day in Harlem from a rented truck. He used his savings to open up the first Benihana. The rest is history.
As I read his obiturary, I yearned for such men to help lead us out of our current malaise. Putin, in his own half-baked way, did it in Russia by riding Fighter Jets but riding roughshot over Democracy and the world learnt a new lesson: managed democracy. We need more of a spirit that helped drive Rocky Aoki to live life to the fullest.
