Robert Novak
For thsoe readers who don't know who he is, he is a conservative commentator who has been a fixture in Washington for decades. Despite his conservative rhetoric, some of his commenets are quite insightful and must be taken to heart. In today's column he published through Human Events, he noted that the current analysis shows an advantage for Senator Barack Obama in the Electoral College. In the final analysis, the Electoral College game is all that matters. Votes casts by ordinary folks does not matter as much. Since the name of the game is the Electoral College, then the issue becomes how to turn this around . With the economy in tatters, U.S. Foreign policy challenging on all fronts and a general sense of malaise, the choices are stark. The only way Senator McCain will win is to go negative. I think an example of it was yesterday when Senator McCain went on the attack questioning Senator Obama's judgement. There is also plenty of surrogates in the right wing that will do the job. Senator Obama has to stay on message and continue to build up the positive, upbeat agenda that got him where he is now. Pragmatism is also the right thing to do becuase the world demands it. But, Senator Obama must not allow himself to be swift-boated. Robert Novak's view is that Senator McCain has to begin and begin now.....
