Tuesday September 16: Quite a Day
:
The "WOW" effect is in full swing....
What a day it was today!!!
For starters, the McCain-Palin Campaign pulled out all the stops on the Troopergate investigation. It was announced that Governor Palin will not cooperate with the investigation becuase of the partisan nature of the players involved. The McCain campaign sent a spokesman to talk to Rick Sanchez at CNN to note that the Democratic State Senators were awoved supporters of Barack Obama. There was no way they were going to be "honest brokers". They are pushing the investigation to be done by the State Personnel Board.
Some of the facts, though, raises more questions than answers. For starters, the authorization to begin the investigation was done in an unanimous vote many months before she was chosen. The McCain campaign wants the investigation to be run by the State Personnel Board. The State Personnel Board is stacked with Palin appointees. They are supposed to be non-partisan. If Palin supporters are questioning the intergrity of the process that they agreed to, then what guarantee is there that Palin appointees will be fair?
If there is nothing to hide, then why all the fuss? Why are they running scared? Why are they implying an Obama connection when there is none? Rick Sanchez, to his credit, tried to ask the questions. The McCain spokesman (who is a lawyer by the way) threw out generalities that won't hold up in court becuase it is simply heresay. The McCain campaign thinks that the people are fools and don't think for themselves. I don't know whether the Obama campaign should respond to this. I do know this, though: Obama should have ignored Palin. Palin is a bubble that is going to burst.
Carly Fiorina, one of the ablest of McCain surrogates and a top economic advisor, noted today that none of the Presidential candidates can run a major corporation. But, she said that running a country is different than running a corporation. Ms. Fiorina seems to forget that the United States Government is a 1.3 Trillion Dollar corporation. The President is the CEO and needs to understand the basics of organizational management and group dynamics. That person provides the leadership and the vision. The team he puts together will in turn determine how the country is to be run. Governing is different. I agree with that. You have to understand and realize the art of compromise for the good of the people. But, this kind of implicit lack of faith in the candidate Fiornia supported did surprise me.
We're in the final stretch of the campaign. The campaign is dead even. Gallup has noted that the campaign is in a statistical dead heat. When will the other shoe drop?
