OV Election Watch (5/18/2010): The Political Earthquake

I'm sure surprised.....
As I write this, I am trying to come to grips with the Political Earthquake going on in the Country. Currently, Arlen Specter's career in the United States is at an end. He was beat in the Democratic Party while having the support of the full Democractic Establishment. Dr. Rand Paul has beat the Republican Establishment Candidate in Kentucky. As for Blanche Linclon, she has been forced into a run-off in Arkansas.
Let me begin by unpacking Rand Paul's win. Rand Paul is supported by the Tea Party. The Tea Party is on the ascendancy within Republican Circles. Kentucky should stay in Republican Hands. What I find shocking is how MItch McConnell, the U.S. Senate Republican Leader, got kicked in the chin over the election is his own State. If he can't control his own state, how can he keep 40 large egos in place.
As for Arlen Specter, I was not too surprised. I salute him for his years of Public Service. I think, though, that he took an opportunistic and rather cynical stance when he decided to change sides. Joe Sestak, the up and coming Congressman and Ex-Admiral, beat him handily. Joe Sestak and Pat Toomey should be a wonderful match to talk about and reflect upon.
It has been quite a day, to say the least.
