Never a Dull Moment

Over the last number of days, I have been researching ideas and thoughts about what we in Main Street World can do to live up to our responsbility and committment to our little home called Earth. The solemn moral obligations is beyond question. Whether the changes are called Global Warming, Climate Change or anything else, those who deny it seem not to understand the gravity of the situation. As the sceptics continue to hav a field day, businesses are increasingly adopting a simple attitude: Green is Good. One of the companies that is doing so in a major way is Southern Califronia Edision. They have been at the forefront of alternative energy and innovative thinking for quite some time. They erected one of the first wind farms East of Los Angeles over 20 years ago before anyone had a real idea of what Alternative Energy was in the U.S. The problem was that they did sustain it. That's changing though. I recently received a mailing from Southern California Edison that details a roadmap of how to gear up for Electric Vehicles. It was simple, to the point and frankly gratifying.
The Edison Mailing laid out a simple three step process for consumers to gear up. It first directs all consumers to assess whether the battery electric or plug-in hybrid car requires an upgrade to the home electrical system. It also asks Edison to be notified as early as possible of plans to purchase such systems and then to visit a website to assess the rate plan. The utilities are gearing up and that's a good thing. This is even so as the Chevy Volt and the Nissan Products will start coming online within a year.
These are exciting developments that is encouraging and indeed hopeful. I have to wonder what the man who started it all, Edison, would say to all of this. I am sure he is looking down the heavens and smiling.

The Political Brief
Just curious... I keep hearing about the wonders of "electric" cars, and how great they are for the environment. Has anyone considered that electric cars need electricity? And where does the electricity come from if we aren't allowed to use clean coal technology or nuclear? As with all liberal "ideas", it has a few drawbacks in the real world and some unintended consequences.
