Obama as Time Magazine Person of the Year
:
well..............
Obama being named Time Magazine Person of the Year was no surprise to me at all. I would have been shocked if it had not happened because of the magnitutde of the man's achievement. I just got done reading about the runner-ups at the Time Website. The four runner-ups were Hank Paulson, Sarah Palin, Nicolas Sarkozy & The Chinese Film Director Zhang Yimou. Of the four runner-ups, I would have seriously considered Nicolas Sarkozy:
People may wonder why. He is a self-centered in many ways. He is probably too full of himself. But, he has managed to decimate the opposition, co-opted many of their ideas and led Europe to an agreement on climate change. I do question his moves to bring the state broadcaster under political control. But, he has at least brought a sense of zeal and activism that was lacking for a long time. I am also fascinated by his Foreign Minister, Bernard Kochner. He is quite a showman himself.
Moving on back to the U.S. Political scene, the Maddoff Scandal is one that some say may be as big as Enron. I was especially saddened when the President of the JHET Foundation noted that they would be closing because of the fraud Maddoff has done. This is a story that Mr. Obama and his incoming SEC Chairman would have to deal with head-on. Just like Enron changed the corporate landscape forever, hopeful the Maddoff scandal will force the securities industry to be ever more transparent.
