Governor Palin Saying Yes To Rod to No Where....and Other Tidbits on Her....

: What else is there?
The polls are starting to show that Governor Palin's star is fading. The Gallup Daily Poll taken on September 19 shows a 5 point lead by Senator Obama. He has continued to gain as the U.S. and the World has undergone an economic implosion that has been unprecedented and is probably indeed the biggest challenge since the Great Depression. The markets were up when Hank Paulson annouced the basics of the plan taking on all "bad debt" off the balance sheets. The markets liked it and they rallied worldwide.

But, the politics of the day still played itself out. There was a story in the September 18, 2008 edition of the Los Angeles Times. The report was on Governor Palin saying "yes to a road to nowhere". She changed her mind on the bridge to no where that has been the central tenant of her stump speeches. But, as folks have continued to investigate her record, the truth is starting to come out. So, the fiction that somehow she is "clean" is starting to unravel. Of course, the McCain-Palin campaign's standard line has been that it is the "elite media" that has been digging things under the guise of democratic operatives. Governor Palin pushed this "fiction" when she noted that organizers of an anti-Iran rally in New York pulled an invite from her under pressure from Democratic Operatives. Interestingly enough, Fox News also reported that Governor Palin will be at a Monday Reception hosted by President Bush. My assumption is that all candidates will be there to be "introduced" to other world leaders as well.

The investigation into "Troopergate" is taking a nasty turn. Alaska Republicans are making noises that the investigation must be delayed due to the "partisan" and "political" twist it has taken. This is also being pushed by the McCain-Palin campaign. My view is that if they have nothing to hide, why are they staying silent and refusing to cooperate. There are also stories coming out about the role of Governor Palin's Husband, Todd. The "First Dude", as Governor Palin calls him, has been apparently in the thick of things. He has refused to testify and to not comply with the summons from the legislature. This stance leaves more questions than answers. I wonder if they understand that.

There is of course the interview w/Sean Hannity that apparently saw ratings go through the roof. I guess after the Charles Gibson interview, they had to find a sympathetic personality. Sean Hannity is Sean Hannity. I have found him to be entertaining. He's good at it. There is a place for him and his opinion. I just wish he was as aggressive, direct and hard on his fellow so-called conservatives.

In this excerpt from Governor Palin's interview, she views "retreat" as defeat. This is the first assertion I take issue with. I hope her advisers coach her to take a look at the alternative views. Check out works by folks like Tariq Ali, Robert Fiske and others who have tried to provide a realistic view of the Middle East. If they regard Iraq as a "victory", I would like to find out what their definition of defeat is. Afghanistan is pretty close, right now. here is a clip (courtesy of Fox News):

I suppose she was a bit more prepared this time. The campaign is indeed entertaining. The events this past week showed that we need true leadership, resolve and a cool head. It requires "grown-ups" to step up and do what needs to be done. Hank Paulson and Ben Bernarke have done that. I hope "grown-ups" will be allowed to continue their work. The poor folks will have a long week-end ahead of them.
