More than meets the eye.....
The lone gunman who has survived the Mumbai Attacks has asked for help from Pakistan. According to the reports I have reviewed, a letter was given to the Pakistani High Commissioner in Delhi by the Indian Authorities. Pakistan continues to deny any involvement. But, it clearly appears that Pakistan's invovlement is unmistakable.
The politics of blame, though, does not address the continued problems Indian Muslims have in the country. The 140 Million Muslims suffer quite a bit at the hand of the Hindus. This is on top of having to deal with fools like the Chief Minister of Gujarat. I have been trying to track down the Sachar report to assess the analysis the report did. It appears that the Sachar report went a long way to provide a true picture on the state of Muslims in India. India has insurgencies in at least 14 states. So, India can blame Pakistan all it wants. But, it must address the fundemental challenges of racism in the country if it is to truly emerge as a leading player.

Will anyone have some sense?
The aftermath of the fingerpointing and the cover-up is continuing. The Mumbai Police Chief is saying that he had no specific warnings. Pakistan continues to be under pressure. As I have commented before, they have to answer for LT and other fringe organizations operating on their soil. They were the instigators and it appears to consume them as well. The slick Zardari is trying to calm tensions. But, why are they not apprehending the Mumbai Underworld Don who is hanging out in Karachi?
On another note, I think someone has to straighten out the Kerala Chief Minister. His insult to one of the fallen officers families is something that should not be tolerated. The Communist Party of India (the Kerala Chief Minister's Party) issued an apology. But, the idiot is not backing down. His view was that the man's father was "mentally disturbed". I can't understand how a man in his position can possibly say such a thing. Guys like him give politicans a bad name all around the world. I hope his party will eventually sack him.
India has too many challenges to be saddled with such fools. I was shocked when I read that there are insurgencies going on in 14 of the 31 states in India. One thing that I would be especially interested in is to see what happens in the upcoming State Elections that is at hand. For instance, Rajastan is starting to vote now. It will be quite a drama.

Why would anyone do this?
The War on Mumbai has ended. But, the implications will be felt in India and the Region for months and maybe even years. Somehow, elements within Pakistan have apparently been involved. The Pakistanis are denying it. But, the problem with the denials is this: They can't even control their own country. From the reports I have seen, it appears that the thugs who claim to fight for Kashmir independence did it along with support from the Mumbai underworld. The supposed gunman who was captured gave such information to authorities.
With an election in India coming up within the next Six Months, the political pressures are getting intense. The Indian Home Minister has already resigned and been replaced with the Finance Minister. My hope is that India will learn some profound lessons and work to emerge from this tragedy stronger and more vibrant than ever. It will work to truly understand what happened and address some of the underlying problems. It will be easy to attack Pakistan and get another international crisis going. The last thing our world needs is another kneejerk reaction to a tragedy. I see profound parallels with the 2004 election in the United States. During that election, the Republicans basically ran a campaign of fear. The BJP is going down the same path. It started with the Gujarat Chief Minister's visit and now the BJP's frontal assault through TV and newspaper advertising. I find it unfortunate.

Will Grown-Ups Act now?
Pakistan's Capital saw an attack in the heart of the City. Suicide Bombers blew up the Marriott. This was near the center of the City and near the Parliament Building as Asif Ali Zardari was speaking to Parliament. If this is not a wakeup call to underscore how tough a situation Pakistan is in, I don't know what is. As I write this, the fire is still burning. The building may collapse. It is a horrific scene. The human toll continues to rise.
According to the reports, this is probably one of the most secure areas in Pakistan. What is the joke is that Pakistani Firefighters are having to withdraw to go back and refuel with water. On top of this disaster, the ability to deal with it is even worst. The world must be concerned. There are enough failed states without having to add a nuclear-armed one to it
