John McCain This Week.....
I was surprised and at times shocked at John McCain's bitterness and the tone of the attacks. As I noted in my reporting & commentary, I attributed it to simple jealousy. As I thought it about further, I remembered John McCain's history. From what I have read, his time as a prisoner of war in Vietnam was in a simple word, hell. He came back and his first marriage fell apart. Yet he came back, ran for Congress and set forth on the path that has led him to where he is today. Everything came almost crashing down during the so-called Keating Five episode. But, he again fought back. He almost lost it all in 2008. Yet, he fought back inch by inch to secure the nomination. So, if anyone is going to count this man out, they do so at their own peril. The Obama campaign must insure that they attack his policies and immediately counter his arguments before they resonate with the public. The McCain campaign has a mountain to climb which became steeper. Yes, there were reporting of inconsistencies and misstatements which flooeded the blogsphere this week. I reported on Senator McCain's double standard when it was ok for him to give a speech in Canada, yet it was wrong for Senator Obama to give a speech in Berlin. But, the race is about more than the symbolism and things that really don't matter. The economy is in trouble. The country needs a jump start and a reason to hope. That's the challenge that both candidates have before them--whomever wins!!!
