John McCain, A Conservative????
There was a story in yesterday's New York Times about John McCain being a Conservative of the "Roosevelt Type, Teddy that is..." For those who claim that mantle, they truly don't understand Teddy Roosevelt. He was the true definition of a maverick. I recently finished a biography of him and truly have come to admire him for his grit, the courage of his convictions and his belief in selfless service. John McCain's commitment to America must never, ever be questioned. However, it is his vision as a "conservative" and where he wants to lead this country that I question. He seems to forget the ordinary folks and the outsiders. I view the true conservatives as those who believed in the ordinary man and gave voice to the ordinary outsiders. I don't believe that John McCain fits that bill.
