Witness to History: An Historical Inauguration

..and now the real work begins......
Barack Hussein Obama is now the 44th President of the United States. Throughout my lifetime, I have had the privilege to read on the traditions and was finally able to be a true witness to this momentous transfer of power due to the power of technology. I have continued to marvel at how someone with so much power gives it up so willingly because the people are truly sovereign in America. This was quite moving when the President and the First Lady escorted Former Mr. and Mrs. Bush:
As I was witness to all the pomp and circumstance, I also briefly "dropped in" at the White House Website. The new White House Website was already up and adapted the look and feel of the Campaign website. It is a smart, intuitive site that I think will do wonders to further open up Government.
I was a vehement opponent of George W. Bush. I wrote about many of the misdeeds. Yet, he is one of 44 men who have occupied the highest office the people of the United States can bestow upon any man. For that, he should be honored and remembered. I view his Presidency as a failure and have written on this as well. But, Tuesday was indeed a day to celebrate.
Right now, everyone is having a party. But, the work has already begun. The Senate has confirmed 7 of the President's Cabinet Nominees. Mrs. Clinton's vote is set for later today as Secretary of State. Rahm Emanuel has already directed the Government to stop all implementation of Government Regulations pending review. The President is going to be meeting later on today with the Economic High Command and the Joint Chiefs of Staff to get the two major challenges going. The Dow dipped below 8,000. The World reactions are also starting to come in. Some have been gracious. Some have not seen so. But, the world is clearly anxious and awaiting action. But, as the new day begins, I look to the future in the spirit of President Lincoln's second inaugural:
"..With malice toward none, with charity for all, with firmness in the right as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in, to bind up the nation's wounds, to care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow and his orphan, to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations....."
Let us all resolve to do our part. There is much to do.
