Repression In Iran

Hussein Derakshan's Predicement
I just briefly the Committee to Protect Bloggers site because of a story it had on blogging in Iran. It is reporting that the Revolutionary Guards claims that bloggers are being supported by foreign elements to create a velvet revolution in Iran. My reaction to this claim was simple: oh well. The Revolutionary Gurads are the vanguard of the Islamic Regime. Such comments are to be expected from an organization that is a direct beneficiary of the misguided and idiotic policies pursued by the Islamic Republic. Knowing how bad things are, I question why Hussein Derakshan went back to Iran. He is the "blogfather" and writes a blog that I visit frequently. He was arrested while in Iran. He will surely be made to pay dearly for what he has written. The problem is that the Canadian Government did not do much for Zahra Kazemi. I wonder what, if anything, they would do for Hussein Derakhshan.
The Islamic Republic does have a profound reason to be worried. Oil just dropped to
$ 54/Barrel. At this price, it will cause profound problems for the Government.
