General Powell is now on the record
:
Quite an indicement of the Republican Party
General Powell went on the record earlier on U.S. National Television. He has endorsed Barack Obama for President. I found his near repudiation of the right-wing shift of the Republican Party especially pointed. Senator McCain's judgement was the key question, as I saw it. As I listened to General Powell, what especially drove me was how General Powell addressed the question on Muslims on in America:
The fact that General Powell reminded us all , in his own low key calm way, the fact that Muslim Americans are as much a part of the fabric of this land as any sealed the deal for me. Colin Powell, someone said, wanted to redeem himself. With his eloquence just now, he did that in my view.
I read just now that John McCain noted that he wasn't "surprised" at the endorsement. Senator McCain talked about having the endorsement of four secretaries of State and over 200 Army Generals and Admirals. But, what he fails to tell us is that Colin Powell himself was a transformational figure and his repudiation of the Republican Party should be listened to. John McCain seemed to dismiss the dire warning to the Republican Party.
In his comments, General Powell talked about Specialist Khan. He was a 20-year old American who gave his life for this country. This is the America I know. I pray that the Republicans will wake up and understand. I salute Specialist Khan and his family for the ultimate sacrifice in service to America.
