: Nothing Seems to Change
Israel's public relations campaign is in high gear yet again. This is the latest that the Israal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has put out:

***************************** ***************************** ****************************

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is following the course of the flotilla to Gaza.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Avigdor Liberman visited the MFA this afternoon (Friday, 28 May 2010), and was briefed on the situation. At 3 pm an assessment of the situation was made, together with the Navy, in anticipation of the arrival of the flotilla to Israeli territorial waters.

During his visit to the MFA situation room, FM Liberman stated that there is no humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Despite the crimes committed by the Hamas regime against Israeli citizens and the launching of thousands of rockets at Israeli towns and settlements, Israel is acting in the most humane manner possible, permitting the transfer to Gaza of thousands of tons of supplies and equipment daily. According to MF Liberman, the flotilla is a violent attempt to provoke Israel. Israel will not permit any infringement of its sovereignty, on land, in the air and at sea.

Dep FM Ayalon: Flotilla's goal is delegitimization of Israel
(Communicated by the Deputy Foreign Minister’s Bureau)
Deputy FM Ayalon: There is no humanitarian crisis in Gaza. If the flotilla had a genuine humanitarian goal, then its organizers should have transferred something for the abducted soldier Gilad Shalit as well.

What someone has to ask Lieberman is how he came to this conclusion. He is either dellusional and is an outright liar. I regard him to be an outright liar. I have no other explanation to outline what he and his deputy have said. All he has to do is to visit the UNRWA website and see for himself. I think that's asking too much of him though.

What Lieberman and his number two need to understand is that the detention of Gilad Shalit is wrong, too. Do two wrongs make a right? I have not been able to figure that out yet?

I find it laughable how Israel takes offense when people remind the Israelis that they are the warden of the World's Largest Prison. Israel simply does not like criticism. I regard this statement by the so-called Foreign Minister as another nail in the coffin of Israeli credibility in the eyes of the World.

Isreali apologists in the US Congress, of course, will disagree. Mike Pence, the Presidential wannabe and one of the key Republican House Members, will be on the forefront for sure. What is sad is how they believe everything that the Government and AIPAC tells them. They should take the time to listen to the folks from JStreet, to PeaceNow and the other side too. But, that's also asking too much.

Mr. Obama seems to be backing down from his so-called tough stance. His Chief of Staff, Mr. Emmanuel, extended an invite to Bibi to visit the President in Washington on Tuesday. This is as Israel blasts the decision by the UN to name it as one of the countries that should step up and sign off on the NPT. I will agree that India and Pakistan have to also step up and do so--as Israel has said. But, that does not negate the fact that Israel should have the backbone to do so in order to underscore its so-called self-declared moral legitimacy.

Israel is a law onto itself. As long as the United States continues to march lock step with Israel, nothing changes. Marwan Bishara's retrospective on the last 60 years should be read by all to realize the hole the U.S. has dug itself as a result of misguided policies which has paralyzed any progress. As for the rest of the Middle East, all should take stock and truly consider whether the United States is the honest broker or not.

The drama continues....

: But that's a drop in the bucket....
Gaza continues to be under siege. Although I understand and am well aware of the position of the Israeli Government, what is clear is that the people of Gaza have not been getting the supplies. Even school textbooks are on the list of banned material that the Israelis do not allow in. But the Viva Palestina Convoy did get through. It got through after quite a struggle though.

What I found disturbing was how the Egyptians blocked the Viva Palestina Convey. The fact that one person died was one person too many. The convoy has finally made its way to Gaza. Aid is being distributed. What I hope will happen is the Palestinians will reconcile and figure out how to responsibly govern themselves going forward. The wild card continues to be the Israelis. The Israelis are continuing their settlement building and have continued their disregard of the wishes of the International Community in general and the Obama Adminstration in particular.

One Convoy got through. But, as George Galloway noted it is only a drop in the bucket.

: Keeping my Fingers Crossed
I have seen some slight rays of hope over the last 24 hours. The whole world rose to condemn Israel for its part in the Gaza War. Yet, the only countries to speak against the Goldstone report were Israel and the United States. But, it appears that Israel is coming around.

Out of all the absurd things that came out of Israel, I thought the charge of Judge Goldstone being an Anti-Semite was the biggest fraud of all. Judge Goldstone is a South African Jew and the report I reviewed was just as critical of Hamas as it was of Israel. I welcome the apparent decision by Mr. Netanyahu, the Prime Minister, to convene an inquiry though. This at least will tell the world that Israel is listening. The possiblity of Israeli officials being subject to arrest when traveling is something that has to be prevented. I have seen reports that a number of Israeli Ministers could not travel because of an apparent threat of arrest

: Should the Children Suffer?
Gaza continues to be under a crushing blockade. There have been so many false starts to get Palestinians to get their act together that hope continues to diminish by the day. The Israeli Government has continued its policies in direct conflict and defiance of the efforts by the Obama Adminstration to get things back on track. The useless Egyptians have been "trying" to get things back on track. I was glad to see the video of Sgt. Shalit, the captured Israeli soldier. Hamas at least has had enough sense to treat the Soldier reasonably humanely. Israel continues to detain thousands of Palestinians without charge, though.

As this "stand-off" goes on, the only people who continue to suffer are the Chldren. I have just reviewed a report from Human Rights Watch available at Really Long Link that details the predicament of the Gaza Children. Israel tells the world that it has imposed a blockade for Security. Yet, kids have no books, no pencil or paper to go to school. How does kids not being able to go to school, study and try and make something of their lives is against Israel's security? I wonder what Mr. Lieberman and the Prime Minister have to say to that

THE UN Fact finding mission has come out with its' report on the GAZA war. The conclusions are quite chilling. Judge Goldstone talks about it in this interview:

Israel: The Lone Ranger

January 24th 2009 08:01
: Will they change?
Israel continues to the be lone ranger of the world. I have read with horror the decision by teh Government of Israel not to step up to open up the borders. The scenes from Gaza are horrific. They remind me of the scenes coming out of Germany after the Second World War.

The President, at the State Department, put out a challenge to everyone. What I found lacking was the committment by the President to take away the need to have tunnels, the need to smuggle and the need to fight. Gaza has been under siege for over 2 years. Hamas overreacted and the results were devastating. But, that is yesterday. There has to be a committment to move forward

: ..and now the real work begins......
History.....
A New Dawn Has Arrived

Barack Hussein Obama is now the 44th President of the United States. Throughout my lifetime, I have had the privilege to read on the traditions and was finally able to be a true witness to this momentous transfer of power due to the power of technology. I have continued to marvel at how someone with so much power gives it up so willingly because the people are truly sovereign in America. This was quite moving when the President and the First Lady escorted Former Mr. and Mrs. Bush

Yemen, AIG, Nigeria....what a day!!!

September 17th 2008 12:51
: The Sky Seems to be Falling.....
Every day seems to be more exciting than the next. Earlier today, the U.S Embassy in Yemen was attacked. Al Jazeera right now is reporting that 16 people have died. At least, visa applicants had not lined up yet. Otherwise the the death toll would have been higher. On the business side, AIG was thrown a lifeline by the Federal Reserve. AIG was given a $ 85 BIllion Loan in exchange for a 79.9% stake in the business. This lifeline will allow AIG to continue to operate. There is also a claim by the Nigerian Delta Rebels of a oil pipeline being blown up in Nigeria.

The embassy attack is bothersome on several fronts. It shows that the fatalists within the Islamist movement seem to be as vibrant as ever. Yemen, of course, is not the safest country in the world. It has been a hotbead of insurrection for a very long time. The Yemeni Government has a lot of work to do. U.S. Embassies are fortified institutions. It will be quite tough to penetrate the compound itself. But, the brazen attack takes quite bit of planning which is worrisome

Jordan's King Abdullah's Trip to Iraq

August 12th 2008 07:02
: A Hopeful Face for the Middle East.....
King Abdullah has gone to Iraq. This is important because he's the first Arab leader to have gone since the war. Al Jazeera is reporting that he got a nice gift: cheaper oil. Jordan has hosted quite a bit of Iraqi refugees. But, it has also benefited greatly. From the reports I have seen, they are enjoying quite a property boom. So, His Majesty will do what he has to do to maintain the economic and political stability of a country that is 70% Palestinian.

I have found him to be quite interesting and vibrant. I have periodically visited the Jordanian Monarchy Website. It seems that the people seem to genuinely hold the King in high esteem. But, Jordan is one of those countries that does practice "managed democracy", just like countries like Morocco. Al Jazeera was fined in Morocco not too long ago. So, this notion of Al Jazeera somehow being anti-american (the line that the Bush Adminstration tried to sell to the rest of us) is just nonesense. King Abdullah has his eye on the ball. with a very attractive family. IIn my view, Queen Raina, King Abdullah and Queen Noor (King Hussein's Wife) have worked dilligently to overcome the misconceptions that has been perpetuated by that lowlife Bin Laden and his followers. I call Bin Laden a lowlife simply because I have no other way to refer to him. I can't refer to him as an animal, because even animals have an honor code
