: Because they have no clue....
I was reading on an article on Kurzweil.Net about dangerous asteroids foound lurking around earth. Now, according to the same report, astronomers state that the objects runs into the tens of thousands. As I was reading this, I happened to catch a glimpse of the latest masterpiece put out by a group that calls itself "Keep America Safe". These are the same bunch of fools who have endowed us with so much I don't know where to begin. I will be commenting on them soon.

These are the same fools who want to spend more and more on the military while gutting public schools, insuring that a true society of haves and have nots are created. I have to really wonder what would their reaction be if we were subject to attack by astreoids? Will they note that it is the will of God? I hope they realize that we have to figure out a way to deal with this and not be so focused on the here and now that we forget that we have bigger things to worry about.

These same fools really need to read the article and do need to catch a glimpse of Armaggedon. We need to be focused on more important things than attacking honroable men who have lived up to the greatest traditions of America well before the founding of the Republic. These same fools need to really go back and read American History and really get out of their cocoon and take a look around.

Here is the link to the Kurzweil.Net article:

Really Long Link

Here is the clip from Armaggedon:

This should truly give us a moment of pause.

: Now What?!??!??
Right now, I am monitoring an Al Jazeera Report about a major attack by the Taliban. There have been large explosions throughout the City. According to Al Jazeera's Correspodent, some of the explosions were being held near the Presidential Palace. They have been using AK-47's and grenades. The City apparently is under lockdown as we speak. Some of the gunmen are on the roof of the Afghan National Bank Building!!!!

This is just like what the Viet Cong did in 1968. The Viet Cong were defeated. But, the stage was set for the eventual demise of South Vietnam in 1975. What I find troubling is that If The Taliban can attack at will as they have, what does that do to the Policy that the Obama Adminstration is trying to pull off. No one and no where in Afghanistan is safe. I will be anxious to see what the useless Karzai's spin on this latest daring attack by the Taliban. Richard Holbrooke noted how credible Karzai was even though the Parliament voted down more than 10 of his cabinet nominees just yesterday before he left Kabul. I wonder what he would say now.

There are a lot of questions and no easy answers.

Can America Get its MOJO back?

January 6th 2010 05:13
: Not too sure!??!??

Yesterday's Giedeon Rachman Column in the FInancial Times should be a cause for concern for US Policy Makers. As America's blood and treasure continues to be sucked dry by all the wars around the world, the world seems to be moving on. To me the fact that the President was snubbed by the Indian Prime Minister during Copenhagen was just the latest example.

I realize that many in the right will say that Obama is soft and apologizes too much to America. But, the fact remains that many of the emerging powers of the world maintain a deep distrust of America. They understand that they have to operate in a global environment. Although the world seems to take a liking to President Obama, the fact still remains that the world still remains deeply suspicious of America. These emerging countires are equating a sense of Social Justice with the need to operate in a global world. That's the new reality as the gap between the rich and the poor gets to be ever more. It is this that leads me to wonder whether America will ever get its' mojo back.

Afghanistan: Where is the Money?

November 21st 2009 07:15
: what happens now?
Afghanistan has just come out with an annoucement that it will work to increase the military force to 240,000 troops. There is an estimate that each Afghan Army Troop will cost about 12,000 dollars, yet each American Troop will cost around 1,000,000 Dollars. Now, with all such staggering figure, the question that has to be asked is this: What has happened to all the money that has been sent to Afghanistan? Why is the country in such dire straits?

When Karzai took the oath, he promised action. He wants to reconcile with the Taliban. He also has promised to fight corruption. But, the reality on Main Street is different. Talk is cheap. Despite the apparent embrace by the international community, the question has to be asked: Where has Karzai been for the past 7 years? Why did he not make sure that The Taliban did not rear their ugly head? How can he emerge from his reputation as the "Deputy Mayor of Kabul" and really start to assert his authority? How can the cancer of corruption be eradicated from a society that knows no other way to do business? How can the people be given hope when they continue to be in the front lines and suffer the casualties

Afghanistan & the Fear of Failure (III)

September 4th 2009 06:14
: Will it get worst for "Obama's War"?
As I write this, reports are coming in that 90 people have died as a result of a NATO bombing in Northern Afghanistan. NATO went after a fuel convoy that was stolen by the Taliban. This comes on top of another incident that saw the death of a key Afghan Intelligence Official a few days ago that I commented on in an earlier write-up.

The question is this: Why is this significant? It is signifcant on several fronts. For one thing, the battle for the hearts and minds that is now the focus of US and NATO strategy is not working. I find Admiral Mullen's Stark acknowledgement that "Time is not on our side" especially chilling

Obama & the AfPak Dynamic Duo

May 7th 2009 03:38
: How low can we go?
The Image
What a Beautiful Scene

The useless Karzai and the playboy Zardari have seen President Obama. I am sure that the President read the riot act to both of them. When I saw the President's statement, everyone was happy and gong-ho. I am still trying to understand why the United States supports such men who have been nothing but a disaster for their countries

: And the Truth???????????!!!!!!??????
I caught the program, Empire, that Al Jazeera's Marwan Bishara hosts talking about U.S. Foreign Policy and the future. The analysis done is chilling. The session he hosted had Seymour Hersch, Lakhmar Brahimi and Tariq Ali. Tariq Ali and Seymour Hersch are considered "lefties" by the Conservative Community. But, sometimes lefites have words of wisdom that should be listened to.

In Iraq, there is some consesus that there is reasonable security. Hannity, in his radio interview on Thursday with Governor Rendell of Pennsylvania, said that the United States won the Iraq war. My reaction was, really? How? The fact is that Suicide bombers are back in fashion as America begins to withdraw. If the United States did in fact win, then why do we still have 150,000 troops in that country? Why are people dying

Iran's Future: Stark Choices

April 11th 2009 02:52
: Will the People be Allowed to make their choice known?
Iran's Election is coming up. I have written here about the candidacy of Mir Hossein Mossavi, the Former Prime Minister who is vying to replace the current President. He held a press conference earlier this week in Tehran, where he vowed to end "extremism". I was also quite gratified when I saw his committment to pursue what he termed as "detente" with the west. He noted that, "..we have to make a lot of effort to gain the world's trust once again.". I find this a powerful statement from a pillar of the establishment who was a key figure during the War with Iraq. He is known as an honest and efficient manager who kept the country together during those trying years.

The unknown quantity here is the Supreme Leader Ali Khameini. I listened to his New Year Message in the City of Mashad, when he spoke out after Barack Obama's New Year Message. He said that he is only one man and has one vote and will note support any candidate. He said that he saw his role as supporting the Government of the Day. I hope that he would truly live up to this committment. Although Iranians are a proud nation with a rich history, they are also patient. If they were not patient, they would not put up with all that they have had to endure over the past thirty years

Mr. Obama's World "Walk-About"

April 7th 2009 09:39
: Looking to the Future.....
Mr. Obama has been in London, Starsburg, Prague and Ankara. He has been quite engaged. I have seen assessments of a mixed bag in the actual achivements. But, I think his speech in Turkey's Parliament has begun a long rapproachment that is necessary and crucial with the Muslim World. America has ignored and antagonzied a signficant and growing portion of the world's population at its' peril. The President's speech has gone a long way to overcome this deep mistrust.

As I write this, the President has begun a town-hall type meeting with students in Istanbul, Turkey. There are those who will dismiss such gestures. But, the need to talk and engage in dialogue is the best panacea to overcome the cancer of extremism that continues to grow unabatted. I am seeing Turkish reports that seem to embrace the President's visit. I am sure that the rightwing in the United States will again raise issues about Obama being a closet Muslim. Even if he is one, my response is the same as Colin Powell's: So what

: I am not surprised at the Republicans...
A Day in the Life....
The President Arrives For His First Day....A Busy One too!!!

The first day of the Obama Adminstration has begun. The President began his day by attending the National Prayer Service and got down to work. I saw him when he met with the White House and signed off on the new Ethics Rules. He has also been meeting with the Economics and National Security Teams. They have hit the ground running. Unfortunately, the Senate has not done the job by confirming the nominees. At least three key members are yet to be confirmed. A new Era has truly begun

: ..and now the real work begins......
History.....
A New Dawn Has Arrived

Barack Hussein Obama is now the 44th President of the United States. Throughout my lifetime, I have had the privilege to read on the traditions and was finally able to be a true witness to this momentous transfer of power due to the power of technology. I have continued to marvel at how someone with so much power gives it up so willingly because the people are truly sovereign in America. This was quite moving when the President and the First Lady escorted Former Mr. and Mrs. Bush

The World Begins anew

January 20th 2009 04:38
: Let's Work to Overcome
Later on today, a new day begins in America. It is a day that is full of hope and possiblities. It is day that the world awaits with anticipation. All eyes will be on the steps of the US Capitol as Mr. Obama tells the world his vision for the next four years. All the networks are busy covering every minute of this momentus event. I I continue to be amazed every day at this. Despite whatever one may think of the leaders, the willingness for them to give it all up and walk away is amazing. The concept of the people being soveriegn is something that America has understood. I also have been amazed as to how inclusive Mr. Obama has been in reaching out to all.

t seems that the world will come to a stop for a few hours to watch this phenomenon which is so unique to America. I view this inauguration as especially signifcant when Israel announced that her troops will be out of Gaza by the time Obama takes the oath of office. The Obamas will be walking into a house built by slaves. The pundits have been at it analyzing every bit of the historical signifcance. All agree that America has come so far. Because of this unique journey, the obligation to insure equality and justice in a transparent and even-handed away becomes ever more important. As I await President Obama's plan to jumpstart the econmy, I am also anxious to see what he will say and do on the Gaza Tragedy and his plans for Palestine going forward

General Powell is now on the record

October 19th 2008 16:51
: Quite an indicement of the Republican Party
General Powell went on the record earlier on U.S. National Television. He has endorsed Barack Obama for President. I found his near repudiation of the right-wing shift of the Republican Party especially pointed. Senator McCain's judgement was the key question, as I saw it. As I listened to General Powell, what especially drove me was how General Powell addressed the question on Muslims on in America:
