Gustav & the Republicans
:
Maybe Some Good may Come out of Gustav
As Gustav heads towards the US Gulf Coast, John McCain and Sarah Palin are in Mississipi finding out about storm preparation. Barack Obama has talked about mobilizing his extensive network to help with recovery efforts. Although this is only a picture, it scared the daylight out of me:
Gustav should be a trigger to have a genuine debate about what we are going to do about our planet. The communities can't simply take this kind of punishment. I am especially heartbroken when I see the suffering in New Orleans. But, at this stage, the focus should be on saving lives and insuring that the impacted communities get back on their feet as quickly as possible. I was mad as hell when I saw John McCain and Sarah Palin rushing to Mississipi. But, John McCain and George W. Bush seem to have learnt their lesson. A little less partying won't hurt anyone. And, the most important direct beneficiaries are the people of the U.S. Gulf Coast. They are better for it.
