An Inspiration.....
As I have continued to report and comment on the world, I do marvel still whenever I see tradition continuing. It gives me hope and encouragement. One such event was the cornoation of the King of Tonga. From the reports I read on the BBC, it was quite a lavish affair. My response to potential critcism is simply: so what? In this increasingly complex world of ours, we have to cling on to some sort of tradition. I hope and pray that such traditions continue to persist.
During the coronation ceremonies, the King paid a visit to a 15-year old cancer patient. From what I read in the Tongo Government website, she has been an inspiration for many for her positive and upbeat outlook on life. Candidates fighting in political campaigns should remember why they are doing it and not be so taken by the prospect of taking power so that to lose the real message. The tit-for-tat today between the Obama and McCain campaigns was another one of those disappointments. But, this image of the King visiting this child was touching and should remind us all of what is important: respecting and appreciating life.
