Afghanistan: The Election Fiasco
:
Worried...........
Peter Galbraith has had a very candid interview on DemocracyNow. He has also appeared on other news outlets explaining what has led to his dismissal. What he says is really telling. It confirms what I have written about Afghanistan for a very long time. It is clear that there is no partner to help nudge Afghanistan towards a sustainable path of peace. The more time this takes, the worst it becomes. Withdrawal from Afghanistan is not an option. The only question is how many troops will be sent to Afghanistan.
Peter Galbraith needs to be listened to. For those who seem to forget Vietnam, the South Vietnamese Army was the 4th largest Army in the world and subsequently collapsed. There are disturbing parallels between Afghanistan and Vietnam. General McCrystal is absolutely right when he says that the people have to be protected and won over, otherwise the battle will be lost. But, when there is no Government to speak up, who will hold this together? General McCrystal?
